Friday. Writing

I'm writing again. I always write, but this time I'm writing stuff for someone else, for a website that people will see. They might even see my stuff. It's exciting and new and it feels good and a bit uncomfortable, which is a good thing I think.

I've always been mostly confident in my writing and speaking abilities, but this does not mean it always comes easily or without fear. The things I like about writing - getting to meet people, hearing their stories, knowing instinctively that yes, that quote is a great one, piecing together a story from someone else's words - I like a lot, but they are also the things that trip me up and cause me self doubt. I suppose any time you do anything to "put yourself out there," there is the feeling of self doubt. Do I sound like a total ass? Am I really just a self indulgent hack? Am I doing this person justice?

I took longer with this piece than I have with others. Deleted and rewrote. Deleted and rewrote. I wonder if this will always be the case with these types of stories. If it is, I'm okay with that. I feel my writing groove coming back. It feels right and natural, even it is a bit uncomfortable at times.

Monday. Thus far

It's getting darker earlier, and it's cooler in the morning. Fall is coming. Welcome.

The past while has been really nice. Lot's of new experiences and new/old people making cameos in my life. Welcome.

I'm settling into my new job, and I love it. The women I work with are all so great, and working in such a mixed space, with so many different people all focused on similar goals is really amazing. It's really something to come to a much maligned area of the city so early in the morning and see it sleeping, before it wakes to the day's insanity.
The fest happened and was a huge success! I felt really proud of everyone involved, and I was really proud of myself for a multitude of reasons. I wasn't sure what the weekend would bring, so I didn't really prepare (mentally), and I just went with it. Just go with it. The new life plan. It turned out to be a great mix of too much and just enough. Silly conversations.  Pillow and blanket cocoons. Cool nights. Warm bodies. Pulled pork. Radio communication. Fires. New friends. Old friends. Sun. Rain. Music. Pretty much tops if you ask me.
There have been a couple of closings in the city that feel like a definite blow to everything that is good and fun here. It's easy to shit on Winnipeg, but really it's a weird and pretty great place. Losing two places in one weekend; two places that both made this little speck a lot nicer is sad to think about, but I hold out hope they will rise again, if not bigger and better, then just the same, which is awesome. Lady Jess and I sent the Lo off in the best way we knew how: weird and boozy.

Saturday. More than a bird, a fish

I think I'd like to be a fish more than a bird.

Tuesday. Enjoy your worries, you may never have them again

Came across this today. The title hits home, and I like the weirdness of the song. Enjoy your worries.

Sunday. The lake

I went to my family cabin this weekend. Feels strange to say that because we've (and by we've I mean my mom and her husband) only recently started living the cottage life.

It was my first time out and it was really wonderful. Increasingly I find myself wanting to get away. Escape.

Wednesday. One week

I leave for Montreal in a week! I'm so busy but it's okay. I can't wait for next Wednesday even if I don't really like flying!

Monday. The xx

Nice new song from the xx. I think the video and song fit really well together.
